So, a couple years ago now. I think it was 2005? (Star Wars Episode 3 had just come out).
Well. VALOR and METRO planned on doing this Long event 10-1 days over the July 4th weekend. (I Still have issues calling it by its proper name)
What they wanted, was for me to run the kitchen the entire event. That, clearly was NOT going to fly. I DID manage to get the help of the then METRO Tavern keepers to come down and over the first couple days. They would handle Fri, Saturday and most of Sunday, then I take over. We got the books straight, things were transfered over just fine, they even got the deep Fryer working that is in the kitchen. (Let me tell you, I sold a TON of French Fries and Chicken Strips. And Corn Dogs. Duby out in ETN, LOVES Him some Corn Dogs.)
Well, the first day, or two. Were pretty cool. VERY Busy, 60+ people, (I think at some point on each weekend at the start & end we got closer to 80 people). but then about day 3 it turned into a death slog.
I did have SOME help, Mike Caro the current VALOR cook let me get an afternoon off at somepoint. The plan was to see Episode 3, but mostly I needed a LONG Fricking nap. d**n near fell asleep in the movie theater. Dark room, Air Conditioning! Even with the explosions, it felt way more relaxing than the kitchen.
By Thrusday I was ready to start killing people. By Friday, I was wanting to kill myself. SATURDAY, I was willing to kill myself, come back from the dead and go on a Undead Killing Spree and burn the place to the ground and dance on the bones of the people there.
10-1 days, is WAY too long for an event. I only did about 7 days in the kitchen, but it was WAY over my (now) personal limit. I could see doing a 4 or even a 5 day again, but NEVER an event like the 10-1 day again. Pure HELL for a kitchen worker by the end of it.
I did make a d**n nice plug of cash tho.
