Just thought I would start a fun thread for other things that go on in the tavern. When I was running a tavern many years ago I really had no intreats in going on mods. For me that wasn't why I was even their. I enjoyed being outside and socializing with other people their. So I spent allot of time doing other things to make the game fun outside of plot. So I thought I would post some of them here.
One of the things I did since I didn't go on mods some of the last people up all the time were the nobles and higher lvl characters since they were generally up late on the long modes. I would make up a bunch of food and bring it to them to make extra gold as they always tipped me really well.
Cards were also always a popular option. Playing cards for in game gold and of course if some wandering monster ran in to the tavern being a responsible gypsy tavern keep I would have to slide all the gold on the table into my pocket to make sure it was well taken care of.
I was also always a big fan of starting camp fires when we could to sit around and tell stories around at night when we could and when it was safe to. I did this even after running the tavern.
One other thing I would do long ago for extra gold would be to get a limited amount of some really nice food that I would then sell off at a reasonable out of game cost but to the person with the highest in game bid, bribe or whatever you want to call it. To whoever wanted to give me the biggest pile of gold for it.
So what do other people do to make nero fun in and around the tavern?

Besides the performing skills I learned during my years at ren faires (fire eating, escape artistry, sleight of hand magic, juggling, etc.), I often (to the chagrin of plot) run some mini-plots of my own at the tavern. For example, I would mention that there is a 'special spice' that is needed to make a really good wine. It was last seen in a pouch that looked like xxxxx. Then, sometime during the day, I'll just head out into the woods and drop said pouch with some basil leaves in it. They'd turn it over and I'd give them some of the special wine (which was just grapejuice that was made by a winery and thus was in a wine bottle). I've also had the 'elusive green spider' that kept on biting me in my sleep that I offered a reward for (it was just a small, plastic spider I put under one of the tables). Another thing to do is to become a 'fence' for people. We have a 'quartermaster' in our game (which is bascially Plot who keeps tabs on what the town has in stock). But telling people that you can sell their items 'on the sly' gives them a bit more of a rush turning them over to you. I still just sell them to Plot as I would any other item to the quartermaster, but the thieves of our game love it. Oh, and slipping the odd peppermint into a Sarr's drink is rather fun too. Wait until they finish their drink to find a tic tac in the bottom. Finally was the music. I would find period pieces on CD and bring them to the tavern, running them on a small sound system I built with extra PC speakers. I told the people that the music was coming from the ghosts of a troupe of bards that were ordered to be executed for their 'tasteless' rendition involving the noble, three mules and a keg of bacon fat. And, whenever someone of higher nobility would come into the tavern, I'd just turn off the music (ghosts don't play for those that d**ned them). Of course, you can come up with your own reason for the bardic troupe to be haunting the place.
